FAQs About Made to Measure Curtains

FAQs

Everything you wanted to know about made to measure curtains

Curtains add the finishing touch to any room. They not only have a decorative role to play in interior design, but they’re functional too – keeping out drafts, filtering light, keeping the room warm and preventing dust from creeping in.

Choosing the right curtains is therefore important. They shouldn’t just look good, but fit properly too.

The way to find curtains that are just perfect for your purpose is to have them made to measure. If you live in or near Warminster in Wiltshire, Lindsays Linens are your local curtain connoisseurs who stock a vast range of fabrics to choose from and make beautifully finished bespoke curtains to fit any window.

We realise that if you’re considering investing in made to measure curtains you’ll have plenty of questions. You’re welcome to contact us or pop in to our store in Warminster to get all the answers you need, but we thought we’d share some of the most frequently asked questions – and our answers – here, to reassure you and save you time:

We certainly can. One of our experienced curtain consultants can advise you on which fabric types, colours, curtain headers, poles and tracks would be best for a particular window, the look and feel you want to create, and your available budget. Ultimately the choice is down to your personal taste, but we can help you narrow down your options.

The most popular types of curtain headings are:

  • Eyelets: Metal rings inserted in the top of the curtain fabric are threaded onto a curtain pole so the curtain hangs in even pleats. This contemporary option is not suitable for bay windows.
  • Tab Top: The curtain is topped off with regularly spaced loops (tabs) of fabric which are threaded onto a curtain pole, allowing the curtain to hang in soft folds. Light can enter through the tab tops, so not ideal if you want a dark room.
  • Pencil Pleats: A classic, neat curtain hanging solution where pencil pleat tape is applied to the top of the curtain, gathered to the required width, and hung using hooks on a curtain track or pole.
  • Cottage Pleats: Ideal for light weight curtains, 1” wide curtain tape is applied to the top of the curtain, informally gathered up to suit the window width, and hung with curtain hooks on a track or pole.

If the fabric you choose comes in bolts narrower than the width required for your curtains we will have to make a join – a vertical seam. Our curtain crafters will match the weave and pattern of the fabric exactly so as to minimise the visible join.

Yes, although it is usual and more practical to hang curtains in pairs. The exception is a door curtain, designed mainly to keep out drafts. We are happy to make any single curtain to your specifications.

We make curtains of any size, style and out of any fabric. We have a large selection of nets and voiles from top suppliers to choose from to finish off your window dressing, let the light in and ensure your privacy. Net and voile curtains can be made with your choice of header, just as for regular curtains.
